Dynetics, Inc.
Decatur, Alabama

BRPH performed design services for Dynetics, Inc. to construct its high bay facility in Decatur, Alabama, for both manufacturing and testing of spaceflight components. The building includes offices, interior storage area, and exterior storage area. The high bay includes a large area for manufacturing and a separate area for testing—both serviced by a shared overhead crane. The test area includes a 6-foot-thick mat foundation with embedded floor anchors. Dynetics will use the floor to perform structural qualification tests for the Department of Defense, NASA and other customers.

The BRPH team provided full discipline support for the facility and manufacturing process— manufacturing and testing of spaceflight components. BRPH master planned and developed a greenfield, 12-acre test site and manufacturing campus, which included water distribution, wastewater collection to city sewer (sanitary lines), stormwater management, parking lots and interior roadways including heavy truck traffic, geotechnical evaluations used for structural analysis, and associated infrastructure and utilities including communication, cabling, and power.

The project was completed via fast-track, design assist (contracted to owner) and, early integration with the construction contractor helped control the budget. The BRPH team worked collaboratively with Dynetics system engineers and incorporated input from NASA for detailed facility requirements. Staffed with a team from the BRPH Huntsville office, BRPH participated in weekly site walks, responded quickly to evolving project needs and provided timely communication to project partners.
