Volusia County Schools Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Tomoka Elementary

ORMOND BEACH, FLA. (June 28, 2023) – The Volusia County School District (VCS) recently celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for its new Tomoka Elementary in Ormond Beach. This beautiful new school, slated to open in 2024, replaces the original facility built in 1968. The architectural and interior design showcases the natural beauty of the site and its many majestic oak trees, which were preserved during demolition. A sprawling oak will even be recreated in the school’s media center.

Speakers included Dr. Julie Roseboom, principal; Dr. Carmen Balgobin, superintendent of VCS; City of Ormond Beach mayor Bill Partington; and school board members Jamie Haynes and Carl Persis, who served as Tomoka principal from 1991 to 2004; as well as Megan White, project architect with BRPH, and Darick Bennett from WELBRO Building Corporation. Senator Tom Wright was also in attendance.

Congratulations to VCS on this historic milestone in your school history!
