Denmark High School sits on 110 acres in Forsyth County, Georgia, and is the third generation of the BRPH-designed high school prototype. The prototype has been implemented numerous times by utilizing a kit of interchangeable parts which include classroom wings, an admin/media wing, arts wing and customizable athletic wing. The school is organized around a central spine into which academic and core support spaces plug in. This allows the prototype to be customized to adapt to site configuration, student station count, or specialty program focuses as required.
While the latest iteration was on a greenfield site, the BRPH team encountered site challenges. They came up with prototype modifications to address steep grade changes while maintaining connectivity and visibility between the school and athletics facilities — a must for safety and security. To accommodate the school’s robust athletic culture, the site development included baseball, softball, tennis, soccer, a practice field and horse stables. The football/track stadium and associated field house accommodates 4,600 spectators on the home side as well as 400 visitors.
With a capacity of 2,500 students, the 417,000-square-foot, two-story building houses school administration, counseling and career services, a clinic, classrooms, 850-seat cafeteria, 2,600-seat gymnasium, media center and athletic facilities — all under one roof.
The Denmark High School prototype adaptation is an academy school and specifically focuses on career technology programs located in separate wings. Each wing incorporates technology, flexibility and long-term educational environment adaptability. The facility’s exterior fits the context of the adjacent neighborhood and the desired aesthetic of the community.
