Remembering and honoring three American heroes

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 1 tragedy that took the lives of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White II and Roger Chaffee, NASA and Delaware North commissioned the design-build team of BRPH and Ivey’s Construction, Inc. to complete the fast-track design and construction of the memorial in just six months. The exhibit features the original Apollo 1 hatch that trapped the astronauts 50 years ago, as well as redesigned hatch that later replaced it. Display cases for each astronaut feature OLED screens that tell the individual stories, then fade away to reveal artifacts from each of their journeys.

The Apollo 1 memorial marks the third exhibit designed by BRPH at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
