Umatilla High School

Umatilla High School accommodated 300 students comfortably when it was built in 1960's. Four decades later, with 850 students, the school was bursting at the seams. Attempts to alleviate overcrowding included an offsite annex building and portable classrooms placed on the only land available-the end zone of the football field. In BRPH's dramatic transformation of the 21-acre campus, the original flat-roofed cement block structures were replaced with one- and two-story brick buildings surrounding a central courtyard. The campus was rebuilt while school was in session with no interruption to classes or extracurricular activities.
