BOEING 88-19 AFT BODY FACILITYNorth Charleston, South Carolina
A DECADE OF EXPANSION AND OPTIMIZATION
The Boeing Company
In 2005, BRPH designed the original Aft Body Fabrication and Assembly Building, and has continued to provide modifications to the facility for the past decade, as Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner program has grown and evolved.
The facility houses fabrication and assembly of all aft fuselage sections for the Dreamliner program and is critical to maintaining- and ultimately increasing- the rate of aircraft final assembly and delivery at both the Everett, Washington and North Charleston sites.
It was imperative that the building modifications not impact ongoing production. In fact, production rates were increased throughout the course of the fast-track project.
The project design included full-height expansions of the building on three sides, increasing the existing ground floor area by over 250,000 square feet. Much of the new footprint, including a Class 300K clean room, was high-bay production space equipped with overhead cranes and with extensive requirements for floor rails, tool foundations, and utility trenches. Additionally, more than 124,000 square feet of mezzanine area was added to provide utility areas and high-quality office spaces with natural light and views of the production floor.
