KEEPING IT COOL
The Boeing Company
In 2014, The Boeing Company finalized their planning efforts for the 777X program which included siting the 1.2 million SF Composite Wing Center Facility where the existing 6,000 ton chilled water plant was located, which serves the entire Everett site. The plan included adding a 12,000 ton chilled water plant to serve the Everett site and demolishing the existing chilled water plant so that the Composite Wing Center could be constructed. The new 12,000 ton chilled water plant consists of 4 water-cooled 2,000 ton chillers, 4 1,000 ton chillers and over 2,000 horsepower of variable speed hydronic pumps.
The chillers and cooling towers are headered together in a parallel arrangement, providing plant redundancy so that any chiller can operate with any cooling tower. Two separate state of the art control systems were installed; one to control the west side of the plant, and one to control the east side of the plant, providing an additional tier of redundancy.
