Public Invited To Celebrate Groundbreaking For New St. Cloud High School
The School District of Osceola County will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony for St. Cloud High School beginning at 9:00 a.m. on January 25, 2010. Staff members and students, along with local dignitaries and the community, will come together in the St. Cloud High School gymnasium to celebrate the beginning of the comprehensive renovation of St. Cloud High School.
The vision for the new St. Cloud High School was jointly created by key shareholders: the School District of Osceola County; the Principal of St. Cloud High School, with input from her staff and parents; the City of St. Cloud; James A. Cummings, Inc.; and the BRPH design team. This collaborative effort addresses the challenge of how to create a new campus within an existing fully-occupied campus, ensuring student safety by sequencing construction and demolition activities around school sessions, all while maintaining a continuous learning environment during this process. Cummings' ability to work around the occupied campus without disturbing testing and normal daily school activities has been paramount in the overall success of this project.
"Our school has a long and proud history in St. Cloud," said Principal Pam Tapley. "This new school is the start of another wonderful chapter for our students, parents, staff, and community. I expect the new St. Cloud High School to be at the heart of the community, sparking community growth and inspiring people to bring even more
opportunities to our area."
The design process for the new school, which has an underlying architectural concept of "Collegiate Gothic", sought to join existing and new structures together in a unified campus that looks and feels like it belongs solidly at the center of the community. The resulting design is a totally cohesive campus with all the pieces working together to accomplish the design concept. While maintaining the existing structures, the new
renovation introduces a three-story classroom building, a gymnasium, and a large dining hall, which all comprise the first phase of construction.
Each structure of the campus will contribute to the whole - creating an exciting, functional campus that demonstrates a sense of regionalism, reflecting advanced technology and methods of construction; and responds to the history of St. Cloud, Osceola County, and Central Florida.
