BRPH Completes Design of Young - Crippen Firing Room
November 17, 2009

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA - BRPH recently completed architectural design of the Young - Crippen Firing Room at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Fla. The company was selected to redesign the firing room and provide an infrastructure that would afford the flexibility for conversions between the Ares I-X test flights and the fully operational Ares I, and crewed Orion Flights. BRPH was retained in 2006 to provide architectural design for conversion of KSC facilities from the Space Shuttle Program to the Constellation Program. The company provided similar design services to NASA during the conversion from Apollo to Space Shuttle in the early 1980's.

The successful launch of an Ares I-X rocket from the Young - Crippen Firing Room on October 28, was the first test launch of an Ares rocket and a major milestone as NASA moves forward with the Constellation Program and their goal of sending crewed Orion flights to the moon and beyond. This was the most recent in a series of "firsts" for the firing room. From this room, the fist to be constructed at the launch control Center, controllers also launched the first Saturn V, the first crewed mission to the moon, and the first Space Shuttle.

"BRPH's association with NASA has spanned more than forty years, from Apollo to Shuttle, and now to the Constellation Program," said BRPH president and CEO Brad Harmsen. "This company is very proud to have a supporting role in NASA's quest to send astronauts to the moon and beyond. We look forward to future milestones as the Constellation Program moves forward."
