Southeast Construction Magazine Ranks BRPH Second in the Southeast Among Green Design Firms
Melbourne, Fla. (November 1, 2009) -BRPH, headquartered in Melbourne, Fla., was ranked second on Southeast Construction's November 2009 list of Top Green Design Firms. BRPH'S ranking was based on $18 million in 2008 billings for projects registered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.
BRPH is a member of USGBC with 35 LEED accredited professionals on staff. The company currently has a total of 30 projects in various stages of certification with the USGBC LEED Green Building Rating System. Included in this list are 12 military projects in the continental U.S., one military project in Guantanamo Bay, and another in Hawaii, along with several commercial or municipal office buildings, and a research school in Florida proposed for LEED Platinum Certification. BRPH has also been retained by general contractors to provide LEED consulting services during the construction phase on four projects for the Air National Guard.
"Our company has made a serious commitment to be a leading green design firm, with a goal for every member of the design team to be experienced in sustainable design and committed to delivering green projects," said BRPH president and CEO, Brad Harmsen. "We incorporate sustainable design principles whenever possible, even in projects that are not proposed for LEED certification. Responsible building design has a ripple effect. Studies have shown that employees who work in green buildings are, on average, healthier and more productive. Green buildings use fewer natural resources during construction, use less water and energy, and produce fewer emissions. Overall, they have lower operations and maintenance costs and tend to have higher property values."
The Southeast Construction ranking is the company's second such honor this year. BRPH was ranked 79th among the Top 100 Green Design Firms in the United States by Engineering News Record (ENR) with 25% of the company's 2008 revenue generated by LEED registered projects. According to ENR, the Top 100 Green Design Firms generated $2.85 billion in revenue in 2008, an increase of 63.9% over $1.74 billion in 2007.
