Savannah school district utilizes second BRPH prototype school
October 26, 2011
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Last week, BRPH officials were on hand at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gadsden Elementary School in Savannah, Georgia. When complete, this 90,000 SF facility will provide educational and support space to accommodate 640 kindergarten through fifth grade students. Gadsden is the second use of BRPH’s elementary school prototype within Savannah-Chatham County Schools having just successfully completed nearby Pulaski Elementary.
The facility will be built on the site where the former outdated Gadsden Elementary School sat since its founding in 1951. It was the desire of the surrounding neighborhood to demolish the old school and rebuild on the same site. Due to the nature of the brownfield site, the team was faced with environmental challenges and concerns that required closer investigation before moving forward with the project.
URS is providing program management and the construction manager is Brownstone Construction Group. The new replacement school is on schedule to open Fall 2012.
